The 1945 Cottage

What did I just do?

So, I did a thing… like a really big thing. Not only did I buy my first home, but I bought a fixer upper. After I walked into my home and popped a bottle of champagne, I sat on the green carpeted stairs. Yes, you read that right. I said “green carpeted stairs.”

I bought a 1945 Cottage that needs a lot of love!

I looked around at the wavy floors, the popcorn ceiling, and the million other issues—both cosmetic and structural. I thought, “What did I just do?” I have absolutely no skills when it comes to operating tools, and clearly that was a requirement for purchasing this home.

When I was a kid, I always remembered my dad fixing things like the father in “A Christmas Story” trying to fix the furnace. There was a lot of banging and cursing. Let’s just say the apple didn’t fall far away from the tree on that one.

I do have a loving and super supportive boyfriend who calmed my fears of buying a home throughout the whole process. Fortunately, he knows how to use a table saw without cutting his arm off, so I think I’ll keep him around.

Your friend,
